Rainfresh Reverse Osmosis system (commonly called RO) removes dissolved minerals from water such as mercury, nitrates, fluoride, sodium, etc. Most bottled waters are made by reverse osmosis technology and by installing Rainfresh RO in your home, you can have the same fresh and great tasting water at the turn of a faucet. As RO water has very low mineral content, it does not leave white scale deposits (if the supply water is hard or brackish) and is therefore also great for steam irons, indoor plants, tea kettles, humidifiers etc.
Rainfresh Reverse Osmosis System features a 4-stage design with a 50 gallon per day membrane. It also features easy open housings and a cartridge replacement monitor that reminds you every 6 months to replace the filter cartridges (model RO 450M only).
Often consumers regard reverse osmosis as the best drinking water technology for home. While RO does remove a wide range of contaminants, it does not remove most pesticides, & other chemicals and bacteria or viruses.

What is Reverse Osmosis (RO)?
Reverse Osmosis (or simply RO) is a water treatment method that reduces mineral content in water. It involves passing water under pressure through a very tight membrane that allows only water molecules to pass through and rejects most mineral salts.
Among its many uses in industry, it is used extensively all over the world to convert sea water to drinking water (desalination) and for reducing harmful contaminants in potable water. Most bottled waters are made using Reverse Osmosis.
How are Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems different from other drinking water systems?
Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems are installed where reduction of specific contaminants is required. For example sodium, dissolved salts, mercury, nitrates, copper, fluoride, selenium etc. If your water has any such contaminant or tastes “salty”, RO is the way to go.
Other drinking water systems reduce contaminants that Reverse Osmosis systems do not reduce, such as chemicals, herbicides & pesticides, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), Trihalomethanes (THM), MTBE, etc. Ceramic filter-based systems also reduce bacteria, coliform etc. Therefore, it depends on what your specific need is.
I have bacteria or Coliform in my water. Should I install an RO system?
No. Contrary to popular misconception, Reverse Osmosis systems should not be installed on water that is microbiologically unsafe. It is the nature of the process that does not make it a fool proof disinfection device. However, Reverse Osmosis systems can remove filterable cyst (e.g. Cryptosporidium, Giardia etc).
If you have bacteria or coliform in your water, you should either install a Rainfresh UV system on the main water line to disinfect all the water in your home before you install the RO system. Alternatively you can install Rainfresh Drinking Water System 1, 2 or 3 instead to remove bacteria & coliform at one tap.
I’ve heard RO systems waste a lot of water. Is that true?
The nature of RO technology is such that when water flows through it, some of it is collected as clean drinking water, while the rest of the water, along with the contaminants, flows down to drain. To put the waste water in perspective, on an average, however, for a family of 4, the total amount of water that goes to drain is equivalent to 2-3 additional toilet flushes a day. This varies with water usage and quality.
I have heard that by drinking RO water, your body is deprived of minerals. Is it true?
Our body gets most of its minerals from the food we eat, not from the water we drink. For example, a glass of orange juice can have the same mineral content as you can get in 30 gallons of water! Try drinking that for minerals!! What’s more, RO water tastes great as well and that’s why most bottled waters are made using RO process.
Can I install RO on the main line to treat all the water in my home?
Installing RO on the main line is impractical, wasteful and expensive. RO produces high quality water, which will be a waste flushing down in the toilet. Waste water from the RO will be high and all the copper piping in the house will have to be changed to plastic!
Is it hard to install an RO system?
Installing an RO requires basic DIY skills and simple tools. No soldering is required. It can take anywhere from 60 – 90 minutes
Can I hook up the RO system to a refrigerator/icemaker?
Yes, it is common. All you will need is a 1/4” tee and some ¼” OD tubing. Cut the tube that takes RO water from the unit to the faucet and insert the tee here. Then run off the extra tubing from here to the back of your fridge.
Can I install the RO system in the basement?
Yes you can do that, provided the unit is not more than 10-12 feet away from the faucet. If you are planning on installing it at a remote location, you will require an additional delivery pump. You will also need to re-route the drain line. Call Rainfresh for details.
Where can I buy the Rainfresh RO system?
Rainfresh RO systems are available across Canada at major retailers. Click on the “where to buy” tab for a list of retailers. You can also buy replacement filter cartridges at the same retailers. They are also available through our international distributors. Please call us to find out where you can buy the Rainfresh RO in your country.
How come some RO systems are very expensive and others are so cheap?
Expensive does not always mean better. When you buy a product through a local supplier, there are bound to be extra costs and charges. At the same time, a lot of offshore products are also available that do not meet any safety and performance requirements. It has always been our goal to bring our customers the best technology at the most affordable prices. Rainfresh ROs are tested to the highest industry standards (NSF/ANSI 58 & CSA B483.1).
I understand that there is a standard for testing RO systems. Is the Rainfresh RO system tested?
The highest industry standard for testing RO systems is the NSF/ANSI standard 58. Rainfresh RO system is tested and certified by CSA International to NSF/ANSI 58. This standard includes testing for material safety, structural integrity and, of course, performance. It is also certified to CSA B483.1, the new Canadian standard, and to NSF/ANSI 372 for low lead requirements.

It also features easy open housings and a cartridge replacement monitor that reminds you every 6 months to replace the filter cartridges (model RO450M only). Rainfresh reverse osmosis system uses model HP1 or SW1, 1 micron sediment pre-filter cartridge, model CF2 carbon pre-filter, model ROM50 reverse osmosis membrane and model IM200 post-filter cartridges. All the replacement cartridges are available from the same store where the RO is available.
Water first goes through a 1 micron sediment pre-filter followed by a carbon filter that reduces chlorine, taste and odour. The RO membrane is next that reduces dissolved metals and ions by >95%. The water is then stored in a pressure tank. The last stage of the system is a taste polishing filter before the water is dispensed through the air-gap faucet.
Reverse Osmosis system Canada is ideal for situations where water has high mineral salt content, often referred to as TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). Water with TDS >500PPM can be improved using a reverse osmosis system.
Often consumers regard reverse osmosis as the best drinking water technology for home. While reverse osmosis system does remove a wide range of contaminants, it does not remove most pesticides, & other chemicals and bacteria or viruses.
Rainfresh RO system Canada is tested and certified by CSA Group to NSF/ANSI58, to CSA B483.1 and to NSF/ANSI372 for low lead requirements. What’s more – it is made in Canada.
If you install the system for the first time you probably need at least 4 hours straight to get the job done. When the installation done, I turned the water back on to test leak. It leaked like hell around the two blue filter housing. Opening up to check and found the plastic wrap still on the reinstalled filters. When filters were preinstalled please do it right, do not ask customers to open up the unit and remove the plastic wrap. Other than that everything else was fine and the RO is worth for the money
Had my reverse osmosis system for a year an a half now. Water is better than any i had before. I Had an issue recently with my systeme and got quickly been taking care of by customer service. 6 stars out of five!
Have had this system for 2 couple of years – had issues with water leaking from the faucet for a large amount of time – purchased a new faucet from here and had the same issues. Send pictures and explanation to customer service and for the next week, they treated with respect, dignity and courtesy troubleshooting my problem. Shipped a replacement part foc immediately. Thank you so much for such terrific customer service. It’s too bad more companies don’t follow suit 🙂
Also give 6 stars out of 5!
Lots of leaking issues right out of the box. Spent most of the day trying to get it to stop leaking. The factory installed spaghetti lines feeding the membrane were scratched at the ends where it seals in the fittings. I replaced them easily with new lines also the jar o-rings leak a lot for no reason. Unit seems to work well otherwise and water quality is on par with my previous system.
Had my system for over a year now and it is fantastic. Other than one leak due to pressure build up after a water outage I’ve had no problems. I have it hooked up to my fridge ice and water dispenser and goes through the fridge filter too.
Have had my system installed for about a year now. Water quality is fantastic, comparable to the great well water we enjoyed for 40 years.. Squeals a bit when I fill a jug, but am looking to install another one to “feed” my fridge system.. When we had problems installing it, customer service was the best ever. Easily a 6 star rating.
Good 2nd stage system OR upgrade for calcium would be nice. NO SALT SYSTEM
