In simple terms, hard water is high in Calcium and/or Magnesium. Hard water does not easily form lather with soap or detergents and tends to leave white scaly deposits on toilet fixtures, bath tubs, shower heads etc. Hardness of water is measured in “grains per gallon” (GPG) or “parts per million (PPM)”. 1 GPG = 17.1 PPM
Hardness of water | Degree of hardness |
Less than 1 GPG | Soft |
1.0 to 3.5 GPG | Slightly hard |
3.5 to 7.0 GPG | Moderately hard |
7.0 to 10.5 GPG | Hard |
10.5 GPG and above | Very hard |
Common evidence of hard water include
– whitish deposits on dishes and glassware
– High soap usage & need for fabric softeners
– Dry, itchy skin and scalp after showers
– Extra work to remove soap curd on bathtubs & shower stalls
– High energy costs, possibly due to scale build-up in pipes and on appliances
– Scale build up in sinks, tubs, faucets & appliances

Easy to install, program and use. My water has hardness of 250ppm or 14.6gpg, the softener takes it down to 0. It does everything in the company description above. Efficient use of salt.
Very happy with this water softener.

Although happy with the system initially, we were not impressed that our C Series Cabinet style Softener System died after only 15 months of use. It was installed to soften well water that was hard, but not to an unusual level. Cannot recommend this product.
Hello Susan, Sorry to hear about your experience. What exactly “died” in the system? The control valve is under warranty for 5 years and everything else lasts many years. Can you please call our technical support so we can understand what might be the problem and how best we can help to fix it. Thank you
Nice compact size and I’ll agree it was easy to install and program. Glad the connections could be in any direction as that made it way easier to pipe. Just have to figure out soap usage and we’re all set.
