Is it necessary to use the faucet included with the unit? Can I not connect it to the kitchen faucet?
It is not recommended that the filter be hooked up to kitchen faucet for several reasons: a) Potential of cross contamination from hot water b) Reduced water flow from kitchen faucet. The filter has microscopic pores through which not even bacteria can pass; so water flow is lower than a fully open kitchen faucet c) Reduced filter life: When the filtered water will be used for non-critical applications such as washing dishes, the filter life will be used up.
The faucet does not match my kitchen faucet. Can I use the system with another drinking water faucet?
Rainfresh offers a variety of designer faucets for use with our drinking water systems. You can buy these online and choose between brushed stainless, antique bronze, satin nickel, polished brass, bright nickel and black finish.
Can I install the unit myself or do I need a plumber?
The unit only requires basic DIY skills and most people complete installation in about an hour or so. If you are not comfortable with installation, we recommend hiring a plumber. Also, if you have a granite counter-top we strongly recommend getting a professional to drill a hole for the faucet.
Can I install the unit in my basement and run a tube to the kitchen faucet upstairs?
Yes you can do that provided the total length of the tube does not exceed 15 feet. You will also need to make sure that your water pressure is at least 50 psi or you may get a slow flow through your faucet.
What is the minimum working pressure required for this drinking water system?
The minimum working pressure is about 25 psi. As the pressure increases, the water flow through the faucet will also improve.
Does this drinking water system remove lead?
To remove >95% lead from your water, you simply need to replace the pre-filter with model LR1 activated carbon filter cartridge.
Does this drinking water system remove fluoride?
Rainfresh Drinking Water System 2 is a great product to make water safe to drink by removing bacteria, parasites and cysts from water in addition to some pesticides, chlorine taste and odour. However, it does not reduce fluoride. To reduce fluoride from your drinking water, you can install Rainfresh Reverse Osmosis System which also reduces a variety of other dissolved contaminants such as sodium, barium, cadmium, copper, lead mercury, nitrates, cysts etc., in addition to chlorine, taste and odour.
Is this product “NSF certified”?
Yes all Rainfresh drinking water systems are certified to NSF/ANSI standards and also CSA B483.1 standards which is part of the Canadian plumbing code.

This is a very well designed quality product that provides excellent filtering from a reasonably small unit. I have done research on filters and this is a well rated product and in my opinion an excellent value. The installation instructions could be improved as the illustrations are very busy and small to read. There is an extensive parts list included that is very useful. BEWARE as they state the “Saddle Clamp” can be used on pipes 3/8”, plumbers do not recommend this use on pipes smaller than 1/2″ as they often do not seal correctly. Fitting can be picked up at very reasonable prices that will make installation very easy for those with pipes smaller than 1/2” or those with flexible plastic pipes as I had.

I’ve been using this system for almost a year, having installed it when the Vancouver area was hit with “high turbidity” in the municipal water supply – ie brown tap water. Using this system has been much more economical than my previous on-tap water filtration systems from Brita and Pur. Replacement filters are well priced and often go on sale at Canadian Tire. While installation is best performed by someone who is comfortable with plumbing and power tools, it is easy and simple to achieve professional-looking results. This system has been a great addition to my kitchen, and I fully expect that I’ll be using it for years to come.

Now that I have all the ‘bugs’ out the system is working perfectly.. When I initially installed the unit, I was getting a mysterious leak from the top of one of the sumps…After closer inspection, I realized that the ceramic cartridge filter that came with my unit , was warped and did not sit correctly in the unit (causing the leak)..I went to CTC and bought another (straight) ceramic filter , installed it and presto …no more leak…I contacted Rainfresh (and sent them a picture of the warped ceramic filter)..They responded promptly and couriered a new filter to me by the next day …SO my advice is check the filter that comes with the unit…make sure its not warped…

We installed one of these on our sink at home, and one on each sink at our vacation property. Easy to maintain (write a note on the calendar to remind yourself when to change filters). Water is very clean and tastes great Very easy to install; no plumbing experience required. Hardest part is drilling a hole through the countertop.

Have had the RainfreshUCS2/DS2 running now for over a month. Very impressed. Quality product. Fair price. Good customer service. Parts and filters are available from a number of retail outlets. Very easy to install. Quick disconnect fittings, fairly clear instructions. I have 10 thumbs, so if I can install and use this unit anybody can. Was using bottled water because a water softener was required on my well water. Didn’t like the thought of drinking all that salt. The 18L bottles are okay until you reach an age where they are just too heavy. So far I am getting great tasting water at 1/100 of the cost of bottled water. I looked at other units, but Rainfresh was quality at a reasonable price. Could not be more pleased.

I just bought this product and am very happy with this purchase. Works really well. Very easy to install.

Just bought it and installed it. If you follow the instructions properly everything goes pretty smoothly. The instructions were good but not fabulous. A couple of things could have been a bit clearer. The water pressure on the it is a little low but they have suggestions and a help number that I have to pursue. What a difference though. Living in the country with hard water this system makes very drinkable water. It now tastes better.

We installed the water system about 3 years ago. WE LOVE IT !!!! It’s easy to clean the ceramic filter. We have town water & you can taste the chlorine very strongly. After we installed the water system, you cannot taste the chlorine at all. I recommend to everyone.

Good Points: – Water tastes good – separate faucet included – inexpensive filters – don’t need to solder to install Bad Points: – Don’t like the quality / method of the installation hardware

I purchased this product last year and this product has been absoultely fabulous for us. Being an engineer I marvel at the thought and design that has gone into this product. A quick bayonet “O” ring design that works great without using a wrench (I have used others in the past that needed me to join the local gym before I removed the bowl). We love the water taste & the fact that it is the only unit we know of out there that also removes bacteria. The stylish ceramic disc faucet is pretty cool. We also calculated that this unit costs much less over a 2-3 year period compared to Brita. Pros: Great design, high performance, ease of installation and use, Unit is undersink Cons None Trust me, chuck the bottled water and install this great product. Highly recommended!!!

If you have done any basic plumbing before, this one is an easy job. As always, carefully read the instructions a couple of times. We’re at a cottage and a reading in advance made sure that I had a 1/2″ high speed drill bit for my 3/8 inch drill. A couple of initial leaks were easily solved. Overall the product is well engineered. I don’t like the clamp-on pipe piercing valve much as I had one eventually fail on my dishwasher. But this one being cold water, the rubber gasket should have a long life. I recommend this product.

Night and day to boiling and Brita. I added a sediment filter on the main line to protect the filters and reduce frequency of cleaning.

It was easy to install and I like the fact that it is a complete kit and comes with an attractive looking faucet. The clean, clear blue tubes that hold the filter are a nice feature because I can see when the ceramic filter is getting dirty. It is amazing that I can clean the filter and re-use it for a year. I noticed that Lowe’s has the replacement filters so it will be easy to find when it comes time to replace them. The best part is that Rainfresh is made in Canada!

I purchased this 2 stage filter system to replace an old Rainfresh single filter unit. This filter system was able to remove an undesirable taste in our water that the old filter wasn’t able to remove. I am very satisfied with, and would recommend this filter system. It is a bit higher in price than some of the other 2 filter units however the replacement filters for this kit are about half the price of the other cheaper filters systems. You only need to repalce one of the 2 filters every 4 months or so (depending on the condition of your water supply of course) and the other one you clean and reuse for up to one year. So in the long run should save a little $$. Install was pretty painless, most diy’s should have no problem installing this filter. Overall very happy and best of all everyone in the house now drinks more enjoyable water!

I’ve owned this for about 8 months now and have had no problems with it. The water actually tasted better than expected. I actually like the taste as good or better than the expensive bottle water I was buying. Filters are cheap and last long. I’m still on the originals and the water is as good as the first day I installed the system. I highly recommend this. I wish I would have gotten one sooner.

Initially this product is very good. Easy to install and nice tasting filtered water but the problem come later when you try to replace the filters/cartridges. We cannot remove to replace. We have followed all the instructions provided we have released the pressure but it just won’t budge

Repeat buyer – Had one also in our previous home, and it’s always worked great. Both town & well water always tastes amazing! Minor problem – Could not install it directly on our plastic PEX cold water line, so bought two copper>PEX adapters and spliced in a short piece of copper pipe, and then it was easy!

I bought this filter over fifteen years ago and I am very thankful that they still sell the replacement cartridges. The ceramic/carbon cartridges make boiling my water in times of boiling water advisories unnecessary. The water tastes and smells perfect. Best investment I have ever made for peace of mind when it comes to our drinking water.

We were looking for a filter that does not remove minerals and gives us safe, clean drinking water. After using this for over 6 months and just having gone through a filter change, I can now safely say that this is an excellent product. The water tastes great and we have no bacteria in our water anymore.
Installation was pretty easy although instructions were a little too wordy, but there are video instructions on Rainfresh website. Piece of cake. What I really liked was that the main filter is cleanable and I don”t have to throw it away after a few months.
Wife happy, me happy 🙂

I had a NSA 100s that had to be replaced. The prices had gone way up, so I checked around. Settled on the rainfresh for price, local availability and good reviews on various sites. Installation was easy. Just had to cut off the ends of the existing NSA tubing and put into the rainfresh. Decided to change the existing tap with the one provided. That took the most time as the tap is in an awkward place. But, the old one was dripping so I decided to swap it. Overall, about 30 minutes to install. Noticeable difference in water quality and taste. Can also upgrade the filters to remove even more contaminates from water.

1/2 hr install. Done right, system works perfectly, great product, good price point.
Wow, your customer response time is amazing ! Thank you once again. Good to hear that the collet can be replaced..

Have had this filtration system for about 20 years at my island cabin. We collect water from a ground water source. Into tanks and only 20psi. It works fine for all our drinking water needs. No one sick and coliform tests always negative. Great system, highly recommend it!!!
Simple system, mostly well designed. Currently somewhat frustrating because air bleeder valves seem to slowly leak and do not re-set just by tapping/pushing them a few times. And I can’t find any related seals that could be replaced for the bleeder valves in the listed parts in the manual. Probably going to have to disconnect it all, to get at it and try flushing/cleaning those air bleed valves at top.
System works well removing chlorine taste and odour but will up grade to the better chlorine filter when its time to change them out. Had trouble with persistent leaks at “O” ring’s on the sump’s , after much reading don’t be afraid to overdose those ring’s with plumbers grease/silicone lubricant. Leak’s are gone.
Thanks. O-rings (part # 2502P) are to be replaced annually and can be purchased at retail stores or http://www.rainfreshstore.ca. Plumber’s grease is not recommended and should be avoided as it destroys the O-ring. Only use food-grade silicone lubricant which is included with the 2502P seal set.
