INSTALLATION
- Installs easily on the main water pipe in the house before pipe divides into hot and cold
- For municipally treated water, install AFTER the water meter
- For well or lake systems, install AFTER pressure tank
- Easily installs in 30-45 minutes average

- To enhance filter cartridge life, two sediment filters can be installed in series (see image below). Typically a coarse filter first to take out larger chunks of dirt followed by a finer filter to polish off the water
REPLACEMENT FILTER CARTRIDGES
- Filter cartridges life depends on micron rating of the cartridge and the amount of dirt in the water. Typically, filter cartridge should be replaced approx every 4-6 months or when pressure drops by 10 psi, whichever is earlier

What do sediment filters do?
Whole house sediment filters reduce sediment, dirt, rust, loose scale, sand, mud, and other particulate matter.
Do sediment filters remove iron?
Iron is dissolved in the water and as such cannot be removed by sediment filters. However, rust (oxidized iron) which is in a particle form, can be efficiently reduced by sediment filters.
Do they remove bacteria?
No. However, if you intend to disinfect your water by a UV system, a sediment filter is mandatory for proper functioning of the UV system.
What does “micron size” mean?
A micron, is a unit of measurement. 1 micron = 1/1000 mm, denoted as µ (Human hair is about 75 to 100 microns in diameter). Micron rating of a filter cartridge refers to the smallest particle size in microns that the filter cartridge is capable of removing. For example, a 30 micron cartridge will remove particulates as small as 30 micron while a 5 micron filter cartridge will remove particulates as small as 5 micron. The lower the micron rating of the filter cartridge, the tighter the filter and the smaller the particle size it can remove.

Can sediment filters be put in series?
Yes, it is common to put sediment filters in series. Typically the coarser cartridge is installed first followed by the finer cartridge. You can install 3 or more in series with progressively finer cartridges.
Can sediment filters be installed in parallel configuration?
Yes, to achieve lower pressure drop and higher flow, sediment filters can be installed in a parallel configuration. However, both filter cartridges must be the same rating.
In pump/pressure tank systems, can the sediment filter be installed between the pump and the pressure tank?
Installing a sediment filter between the pump and the pressure tank can cause damage to the filter and the pump.When the filter gets plugged up and the pressure switch calls for the well pump to come on, the pump will be pushing water against a plugged filter which can destroy the filter or the pump. Therefore, sediment filters should always be installed AFTER the pressure tank.
Can a carbon filter be used on the main line to reduce sediment, taste, odour and chlorine
Although carbon filters fit the same housing, they should not be used for main-line application since their performance is rated only at about 1 GPM. On main lines, where flow rates are much more than 1 GPM (typically 5 to 8 GPM), carbon filters will not perform well, can cause substantial drop in water pressure or can plug prematurely. If whole house taste and odour reduction is required, you can install a Rainfresh whole house carbon filter system.

The whole house filter includes a 5 micron sediment filter cartridge although any micron rated cartridge can be used to suit the application. 30 micron coarse pore filter cartridge can be used for applications where water comes directly from a lake, river or pond while a 5 micron or 1 micron filter cartridge can be used for general dirt reduction in applications where the supply water is relatively clean. Most retail stores and plumbing wholesalers carry all Rainfresh sediment filter cartridges to fit the whole house filter with bypass valve.
A standard style filter housing without the built-in valve is also available.

I like the way this attaches with only a partial turn over the screw on type which started to leak on me after a few months. The OFF feature is useful so you don’t have to turn the entire system off to change the filter. At the cottage I use two of these: the first with a 5 or 20 micron filter to filter the larger particles and the second with a carbon filter to remove odours, etc. These are followed by a UV filter. (Drain in the winter and leave in Open position so pipes drain.)

The instructions say to put two layers of teflon tape on the tread. I needed about 6 layers before it would stop leaking. This was a replacement and I already had compression fittings under the since. I had a hard time finding the fittings to go from the 3/4″ to my compression fitting. Canadian Tire did not have an install kit at the two stores I checked. There is not much else on the market in this price range. Would recommend this product.

This is fairly easy to install, use more teflon tape on your threads than instructions tell you (mine had a slow leak using the recommended amount of teflon tape). Gives a little more peace of mind esp. with homes on well water. Like the see through body and the on/off valve for easy filter changes. Mine has been used for 2 months now and has visible rust stains and dirt in the filter using a 30 micron filter. I will be installing another unit with 5 micron filter for the kitchen.

The first one lasted for “I don’t know how long!” (A real long time). Bought a new unit- complete to replace the old one. Rainfresh products are of good quality and reasonably priced.

I installed this filter yesterday. After I turned the water back on this filter starts leaking on the top of bypass 1 L water for whole night. I will return this one then pick the standard filter instead. My friend had the same leaking problem like me. And he suggested me to buy the standard one.
I would put Plumbers Paste rather then Teflon on the threads. The threads are to coarse for tape and only the paste will give you a fast sure seal. Do this and you will have no leak problem. I would recommend this product.

I just installed this unit today, but I don’t expect to have any issues. The instructions and diagrams are clear, and easy to understand. It’s convenient that there are multiple options for replacement cartridges. I would also recommend using liquid thread sealant as opposed to teflon tape. It’s more reliable and much easier if you haven’t used either before.

Bought this one at Canadian Tire but the wrong one was in the sealed package. I installed it anyway and read the instructions not to use anything but tape. It leaked like may others. Tried to tighten but it broke. Went to CT to buy another but like the last one was the wrong on in the sealed package. Bought the right one at Home Hardware and installed with plumbers putty. Not a bad unit for the price. CHECK BOX BEFORE YOU BUY. Could not get my money back.
wil be returning this unit, had it professionally installed and it leaked at the top of the unit. the plumber had the same thing happen to one he installed earlier that week. left quiet the mess of water.
the internal valve on top leaked right away. Water dripping on the floor..

Love my filter! > I was like lots with the LEAK immediately after install. *Apparently the COMMON issue is NOT removing the cellophane wrap off the filter cartridge that comes already in the unit.
This should be # 1 in Instal instructions.
Works great > Now.
Leaked from bypass valve immediately. Will return, can’t trust.
Bypass valve model leaks continuously from the top after a filter change. Very frustrating and a waste of money.
